Interesting reading, for a document written in 1646. Is there a dynamic equivalent out there? The "NIV" of the "The Westminster Confession of Faith"?

Good Question! I will look into that this week. - JJ

Josh,
I think this is a great idea. The confession may be a little archaic, but it is thorough and concise. I'll do some checking on a modern rendition. - nhill

Earlier today, some of us were talking about the issue of translating Scripture from the original languages into modern English - or any other language for that matter. The Westminster Confession comments on this very matter, in Chapter I, Section VIII:

"But, because these original tongues [i.e. Hebrew and Greek] are not known to all the people of God [i.e. most of us], who have right unto, and interest in the Scriptures, and are commanded, in the fear of God, to read and search them, therefore they are to be translated in to the vulgar [common] language of every nation unto which they come, that, the Word of God dwelling plentifully in all, they may worship Him in an acceptable manner; and, through patience and comfort of the Scriptures, may have hope."

Josh,
Sunday school was convicting. I thought the video and the "cooperative learning groups" as we teachers call it was extremely effective. It made your point loud and clear. I was challenged to grow in the knowledge of God not just to refute unbelievers but to deepen my own relationship with Him so I can praise Him for ALL He is and ALL He does.
