Getting to Know God

The interaction was good this past week. It seemed that the issue of what it means to know God was one of the hot topics. We can certainly continue some discussion on the topic with this post, though we may make an additional post or two on this or other topics as the week progresses.
Also, just to prime the pump, one of the subjects that will be considered this coming Sunday is the issue of what it means that God is spirit. Does this mean He has no form?

For now, let me encourage you to briefly read what the Westminster Confession has to say about the subject of God. Click on "Chapter II - Of God, and of the Holy Trinity." The three short paragraphs shouldn't take more than a minute or two. This will provide a good, brief summary of what orthodox Christians have believed regarding the subject.

Good thoughts Jeremy. I have been challenged latley with thinking about what it is that makes me different from any other religion that says they believe in God as well. Just to "believe in God" cannot be enough. What distinguishing features about the God that I know makes Him different from any other "god" that someone else claims to know?

I know we will be looking through that very question and more in the comming weeks, but I thought I would challenge everyone to think through that quesion.

Any thoughts out there on that?

Josh, I would say that the predominant idea behind how our God is different is through the revelation of Himself through Jesus who Himself was God. Just a quick thought.

Got a question/questions.
Do Satan and the fallen angels believe in the same God we believe in? If yes, the same God, then the difference is between us and Satan and the fallen angels.

Now apply this question to other believers in God and us worshippers of God.

We believe in the God that the people of God (Jews)believes in. At this point of time compare their belief in God to ours. Someday at God's devine appointment they'll believe like what believe in about God, and the Gospel as the Holy Sirit taught us thru Pastor Scott recently.

God is the same in all belief if I may say so. The question is where did they obtain this belief? If it is not from the word of God (OT & NT) then their belief in God is in vain.

God looks at every heart of man. If Jesus, the Holy Spirit and God Himself is enthroned in the heart of man then his belief is true. An untrue (is "false" better)belief in God does not make a false God. God is still the same except some do not have true knowledge of God that can only obtained from His word the Bible as taught by the Holy Spirit. This sentence has three requirements to obtain true knowledge of God. Can anyone tell me?

Are we barking at the wrong tree of Their God vs Our God? God still loves them that's why there is a Great Commision. And their blood is in our hands if we do not warn them.

How about those souls Jesus said to them "depart from me you workers of inequity."? They believed in God and in Jesus. So what is the difference? Could it be ignorance about God? Read the Bible and learn? But the Bible is a God's letter to His own people? Nobody can just read it and learn from it. There are three prerequisite as mentioned above to able learn from the Bible.
